Purdue University awarded Platinum Mental Health America Bell Seal for workplace mental health

Purdue University is proud to announce it has been awarded a Platinum 2025 Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health by Mental Health America. MHA is the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to promoting mental health, well-being and illness prevention. Its work is informed, designed and led by the lived experience of those most affected. The Bell Seal is a first-of-its-kind workplace mental health certification recognizing employers striving to create mentally healthy workplaces for their employees.

“Purdue’s leadership team values and prioritizes employee mental health and the crucial role it plays in the overall wellness and success of our Purdue community,” said Amy Boyle, vice president for human resources. “Investing in programs and resources to support the mental health of our employees is an investment in the organization as well. Recognition of our efforts by MHA highlights the priority we continue to place on mental health awareness and care.”

The Bell Seal recognizes employer advances in workplace mental health by awarding Bronze, Silver,

Gold and Platinum recognition levels. In 2024 Purdue was recognized as a Silver Bell Seal recipient. MHA recognizes Bell Seal recipients as meeting or exceeding national standards for best workplace mental health practices. Only two in five employers meet the standards for Bell Seal certification. Purdue University underwent a rigorous evaluation of its policies and practices in four areas. Below are the four areas and Purdue’s scores in each:

  • Workplace Culture (96%)
  • Benefits that Support Mental Health (91%)
  • Caring Beyond Compliance (89%)
  • Holistic Wellness at Work (100%)

Purdue’s total score for 2025 was 94%, which meets the requirements for the Platinum level.

“Earning the Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health certification again in 2025 at a higher level than last year is a powerful testament to our commitment to fostering a mentally healthy, supportive and inclusive work environment,” said Brandy Royer, associate director of benefits in Human Resources. “This national benchmark reflects our dedication to prioritizing employee well-being as a foundation for organizational success.”
