Legacy MD Medical Group Expands Focus on Women’s and Children’s Health with the Addition of Family Nurse Practitioner Mona Lisa Ruiz

EL CENTRO, CA – Legacy MD Medical Group is proud to announce the addition of Mona Lisa Ruiz, FNP, to its growing healthcare team. With a well-rounded background in family medicine and a special interest in women’s health and pediatric care, Ruiz’s arrival represents a key step in Legacy MD’s mission to expand its services for women and children across the Imperial Valley.

“I’m excited to return to a setting where I can provide focused, long-term care to families,” Ruiz said. “I really enjoy women’s health—pap smears, IUD insertions, breast exams, managing menopause symptoms—as well as caring for infants and teens. It’s rewarding to be part of a team that prioritizes accessible care for women and children in the community I call home.”

Ruiz is now accepting new patients and can serve as a primary care provider (PCP) for children of all ages and for women’s health needs. She is also able to administer Vaccines for Children (VFC) immunizations—a federally funded program that provides no-cost vaccines to eligible children. Her ability to provide full-spectrum primary care, from well-child checkups and immunizations to family planning and menopausal care, makes her an invaluable resource for families seeking continuity and convenience in their healthcare.

A native of Brawley and a familiar face to many in the region, Ruiz brings more than 12 years of emergency nursing experience and nearly four years as a practicing nurse practitioner. Her clinical journey has included roles in emergency rooms, urgent care centers, family medicine practices, pediatric offices, and women’s health clinics—giving her a broad perspective and versatile skill set that aligns with Legacy MD’s comprehensive care model.

She will be seeing patients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, offering services that include well-woman exams, birth control counseling, menopause and hormonal care, as well as pediatric check-ups, immunizations, and preventive screenings.

Her healthcare journey began at Imperial Valley College, where she completed the nursing program, before continuing on to San Diego State University for her bachelor’s degree. She later earned her Master of Science in Nursing at United States University. Her work in local hospitals, including Pioneers Memorial and El Centro Regional Medical Center, has made her a trusted presence in the medical community.

“Mona Lisa’s expertise in both pediatric and women’s care helps us deepen our commitment to two vital populations—mothers and their children,” said Dr. John Strong, Chief Medical Officer. “Her compassionate, community-rooted approach is exactly what we strive to deliver in every patient interaction.”

Her addition underscores Legacy MD’s expanding initiatives to meet the needs of underserved populations, particularly women and children, through both preventative care and chronic condition management. With locations in El Centro, Calexico, Brawley, and Indio, Legacy MD Medical Group continues to grow in both reach and specialization—ensuring that high-quality care is never far from home.
